CaseyGerry partner and head of the firm’s Mass Torts practice, Frederick Schenk is the past president of the Del Mar Fairgrounds, 22nd District Agricultural Association, a group which was integral to emergency response and evacuation in the 2007 San Diego Firestorm. The Del Mar Fairgrounds responded to the immediate need for shelter, food and water. Within hours, Del Mar Fairgrounds and Qualcomm evacuation centers were set up. 2,000 bottles of water and snacks were made available to local response operations in Ramona and Fallbrook. Cases of water were provided to the Sheriff’s Communications Center. Costs and personal items were ordered for the evacuation centers. Transportation was provided to special needs shelters in other parts of the county for those who needed it. Supplies for horses and cattle were immediately dispatched, and ongoing tireless support was facilitated for all those affected.

In the aftermath of the San Diego Firestorms, the 22nd District Agricultural Association continues to ramp up efforts in preparedness, facilitating the development of protection and evacuation plans, short- and long-term recovery plans, and a regional evacuation plan developed and approved by the Unified Disaster Council, among others.
